The Bible story of the Old
Testament shows God using animal sacrifice to forgive the sins of
people. The NT Bible story reveals the final plan of God and his
wonderful love for his created people.
Bible Story in First CovenantThe Creator began to draw his children back to himself in the OT Bible story. He used the sacrifice of animals at the Tabernacle of Moses. Once a year on the Day of Atonement, the high priest sacrificed a lamb for himself and a lamb for the people. The high priest then sprinkled the blood of the sacrificed lambs on the mercy seat where God dwelt (Heb. 9:7). The people of Israel could approach the Lord in the Bible story because the high priest sprinkled the blood of the sacrifice on the mercy seat. Through the blood of the slain lamb, God then forgave the people for their sins. Bible Story of New CovenantGod found fault with the OT covenant Bible story. He looked for another way to forgive sin because of his intense love for his people. (Heb. 8:7). The Lord used the first covenant of Moses to point the way to a superior covenant. In the new and better covenant, God put his laws on their minds and hearts. He then forgave their evil and did not remember their sins anymore (Heb. 8:10, 12). 4I wept and wept because no one was found who was worthy to open the scroll or look inside (Rev. 5:4, NIV). John wept in his Bible story because he saw the lost condition of man. Our Father longed to have a close communion with us. Unity with him was impossible because we were living in a state of tainted decay. The first covenant didn’t bring man to the state of holiness that God wanted for his children. John sensed that man could not help God obtain a spiritual relationship. There was no hope in the old covenant of the Bible story. That’s the reason God needed a Redeemer to open the scroll and break its seals.
Bible Story Rose reveals love of God5Then one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.” 6Then I saw a Lamb, looking as if it had been slain, standing in the center of the throne, encircled by the four living creatures and the elders. He had seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth (Rev. 5:5, 6, NIV). Bible Story of Slain LambThe slain Lamb of the Bible story stands … in the center of the throne where the Almighty God sits. The Lamb has … seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God. The eyes represent the Holy Spirit. We see a picture of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit united as the Holy Trinity. The slain Lamb displays … seven horns: the number seven points toward fulfillment and perfection. The horns (keras) describe strength, courage, and a mighty deliverance.[i] The slain Lamb fulfills his roll as Messiah by delivering people from bondage, sin, and death. The Blood of JesusLinda and I live in a 100-year-old home. The front door contains a stained-glass window with small red panes around it. I stood at the front door last summer and watched Linda walk up the front walk. She wore a red pantsuit. I happened to look at her through the red glass: Linda’s clothing appeared as fresh fallen snow. When we look at a red object through a red glass, the object turns white. I thought to myself, this is how the Lord sees us in his Bible story. When God looks through the red blood of Jesus Christ, he pictures our sins as white and pure. Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool (Isa. 1:18, KJV). This was Bible story good news. The Father didn’t remember our sins when we trusted in Jesus for eternal life. He only saw the holiness and perfection of his Son. On the cross Jesus said, “It is finished.” He completed his work for the salvation of man. Jesus paid the full price for our redemption by his blood. He returned to his Father, and his Father crowned him King!
Bible Story Rose of Mercy (Isa. 12)The Lord was angry—Then he turned away. The final plan of God's Bible story shows the sacrifice of Jesus Christ for our sins. The Bible story of Good News from our God tells us that he raised Jesus from the grave to defeat our enemies. We just need to accept this fact by faith and trust his eternal love.
